Libana was established in Biel by Sigmund Liebmann, a prolific entrepreneur whose companies are now all defunct.

Nitella was founded in 1930 by Charles Nicolet, who ran the Fabrique Nicolet Watch. Four years later he sold it to Alfred Leuzinger and Werner Menzi.
