Agon was once one of the largest manufacturers of Swiss watches. But these were Roskopf-type watches, popular but not highly esteemed by the makers of the "beautiful Swiss anchor watch". Like all manufacturers of this type of watch, Agon did not survive the "quartz crisis".

Achille Hirsch created a number of businesses in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Compagnie des Montres Invar was intended to produce precision watches with their own calibers. The Invar brand was subsequently used by Achille Hirsch's sons, and the company ceased to exist in 1992.
