Emil Gisiger set up a watchmaking factory in Selzach in 1919, probably to supply his family in the USA with watches and movements [1]. In fact, there was a Gisiger Bros. watch importer in New York [2].

1920

The company was originally called Tempus, Times Watch Manufactury, but Emil Gisiger registered an impressive number of trademarks and logos in Switzerland, such as Swisstimes, Atlantis, Times, Flambeau, Worldtimes, Suntimes, and so on. In 1923, the company was called Emile Gisiger, Atlantis, Flambeau, Times Watch Manufactory [3].

The company often signs its advertisements "Swiss Times", although, curiously, this name was not registered. The company mainly manufactured small movements, probably intended for nesting in the USA. However, the company claims to export all over the world.

Emil Gisiger died in 1926 and his son Hans took over [4]. Hans died in 1935, however, and the factory ceased operations.

In 1943, some brands were taken over by Ed. Kummer SA [5].

Additional note:

From 1921 onwards, Emil Gisiger collaborated on his advertising with a remarkable German artist: Walter Kampmann. In 1919, Kampmann was professor of applied art at the Technical College for the Textile Industry in Berlin. He was therefore well aware of the contribution art could make to industry, which no doubt explains his work for Swiss Times. An article on this artist and his collaboration with Times Watch can be found here.
