Main MIMO watch models

Mimo

Some of the many models created by MIMO were particularly innovative. From 1940 onwards, MIMO progressively used the Girard-Perregaux brand.

- Mimo-Meter

1931

Patented in 1930 [1] and launched in 1931, the Mimo-Meter was the first watch with a date window at 3 o'clock. It existed in a variety of case shapes, including a pocket-watch version. The movement was tonneau-shaped, allowing for a larger mainspring to facilitate the passage of the date.

- Octo-Meter and Ironclad

1931

These two models were also launched in 1931. The Octo-Meter is an 8-day watch powered by two mainsprings. The movement for this watch may not be from MIMO, but from another manufacturer specializing in this type of movement, such as Ernest Tolck in La Chaux de Fonds.

The Ironclad is a jumping-hour watch, a very popular model in the early 1930s.

- Mimorex

1933

This is a very attractive double-sided ladies' watch, launched in 1933. It features a classic dial on one side and a jumping-hour dial on the other. The jumping-hour mechanism is carried on an additional plate, attached to the movement by two screws.

- Mimolympic

The Mimolympic was launched in 1936, the year of the Berlin Olympic Games, which were a huge success with 49 countries entered and almost 4800 participants, despite an international boycott campaign.

1936

This is a stop-in-flight watch, rectangular in shape, equipped with an attractive movement based on the 7.75/11-line Mimo 72 caliber.

The dial features two subdials, one at the top for the minutes, the other at the bottom for the seconds. Pressing the crown resets both hands to zero, and they start again as soon as the pressure is removed.

Girard-Perregaux Mimolympic watches are also available.

- Ladies' watches

1934

1936

1937

Among the many ladies' models created by Mimo, some had names. These include the Clochette and Lilliput watches.

- Water-resistant watches

1940

From 1936 onwards, Mimo developed a range of water-resistant watches, in particular rectangular watches where the caseback and middle form a single piece and the glass and bezel are screwed onto the case.

Some MIMO round waterproof watches were highly original, such as the Mimocean, whose case was attached to the middle by a hinge, or the Mimosport, which worked on the same principle but with the crown embedded in the bezel.

- Mimo-Meter 2

1939

This second Mimo-Meter watch featured a "grande date", i.e. a double date window. The date could easily be set, or changed at the end of the month, by pressing the crown.

- Mimo-Loga

This was the first wristwatch to feature a slide rule, thanks to a fixed logarithmic scale on the periphery of the dial and a second logarithmic scale on a rotating bezel.

1941

Patented by MIMO in 1940, it was launched in 1941. Curiously, the patent shows the device mounted on a chronograph, but it does not appear that the Mimo-Loga existed in this version.

- Mimo-Centric

Watches with "regulator" dials, i.e. with an off-center dial for the hours, were very much in vogue in the early 1940s. MIMO brought out its own model in 1943, and it also existed in a pocket-watch version.
